Advanced Music Box Adjustment Tips (VdS Video)

Here’s an excellent instructional video from the VdS (Black Forest Clock Association) showing advanced techniques for adjusting and fine-tuning a cuckoo clock music box mechanism.

These adjustments are intended for careful, detail-oriented work. Please watch the video closely before attempting any changes, and keep this rule in mind: every adjustment should be extremely small.

Important Safety Reminder

  • Make all wire bends and tweaks a hair’s width at a time.
  • Never force a lever, wire, or lift arm.
  • If something feels stuck, stop and reassess—forcing parts can bend linkages or damage the music box governor.
  • When in doubt, consult a qualified clock repair professional.

Done correctly, very small adjustments can dramatically improve timing, lift, and clean start/stop behavior. Done too aggressively, the same parts can be thrown out of alignment just as quickly—so slow, careful, and minimal movement is the key.
