"The Biedermeier period was an era in Central Europe between 1815 and 1848 during which the middle class grew in number and the arts appealed to common sensibilities. It began with the Congress of Vienna at the end of the Napoleonic Wars in 1815 and ended with the onset of the Revolutions of 1848 Although the term itself derives from a literary reference from the period, it is used mostly to denote the artistic styles that flourished in the fields of literature, music, the visual arts and interior design. It has influenced later styles, especially those originating in Vienna." (From Wikipedia)

This beautiful floor clock is a great example of the simple and elegant lines of the Biedermeier aesthetic. The classic shape allows it a timeless and universal appeal, complementing almost any interior design

A contemporary version of The Vienna. This Palladian style case features a Makassar and black lacquer cabinet decorated with superb book-matched and cross-banding Makassar veneers. The Westminster chime mechanism features an enamel finish dial with Roman numerals and seconds indication. The time is indicated by blue lacquered hands and the cabinet has solid brass chrome plated furniture. The case is hand rubbed and waxed to achieve a superb satin finish.

The Greenwich regulator is a superb example of the art of the British clockmaker. The movement features a Vulliamy style deadbeat escapement. A temperature compensated pendulum based on an elegant design by John Ellicott in 1752 enhances the accuracy. Maintaining power, as devised by John Arnold (1736-1799), ensures precision is retained when the movement is wound. An elegant design of epicyclic gears allows the movement to run a month before needing to be wound. A special limited edition version was made by Comitti in 2012 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee. The original timepiece now resides in Buckingham Palace.
